Shelly Fried BPE, BPE, MSc, EDD student, HeartMath Coach

Cohort Mentor Advanced Coaching Diploma

Shelley is currently completing her PhD at the University of Calgary in the Werklund Education Department. Her research is focused on how to build impactful teaching practices and specifically, finding out how teaching games for understanding (TGFU) students use their pedagogy knowledge.

Shelley discovered a passion for coaching at the age of 16 when she attended her first coaching clinic; 30 plus years later she is still pursuing new ways to improve sport. Shelley worked at Hockey Canada where she assisted the high-performance teams at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. Until recently she had been the only female listed as staff for the men’s national junior team. Her time at Hockey Canada introduced her to the Advanced Coaching Diploma and she has also since become a learning facilitator in the NCCP program. She loves how much she learns from the coaches every time she delivers a course in addition to the potential of expanding another coach’s learning.

Shelley’s professional career spans from high performance sport to recreation. Currently, it is the world of education and teaching that she is finding is her passion. After spending 15 years with Mount Royal University in the Health and Physical Education department, Shelley joined the University of Manitoba, where she is teaching in the Department of Physical Education and Recreation Management.
