Nicholas Simpson B.Sc., CSCS

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Nicholas completed his Bachelor of Science in kinesiology at the University of Calgary. His passion for teaching, developing self-esteem, analyzing and understanding the complexity of high-performance human movement is what led him down the path of working with elite athletes.

Nicholas’ areas of expertise include strength, power, technical analysis, cueing and creative problem solving. He began working with the short and long track development speed skating team in 2012. His responsibilities evolved and prior to the 2014 Olympic Games, he assumed a strength and conditioning leadership role within the speed skating integrated support team. One of his proudest moments include seeing Olympic Oval athletes he helped from their earliest stage, teaching them some of their first movements in the weight room, qualify and compete at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games.

Nicholas grew up playing a mix of hockey, soccer, & baseball. He’s competed in both Olympic-style weightlifting and powerlifting. These days his focus is on simply staying in shape and moving well within a mix of calisthenics, pilates, martial arts, biking, sprinting, and more traditional strength & power movements.
