Nicole Wakulich

Nicole Wakulich  BKin

Medical Coordinator

Nicole graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Kinesiology with distinction and an embedded certificate in leadership studies. Throughout her University degree, she was a swimming coach. 

Nicole has always had a passion for sport, playing competitive soccer throughout her athletic career. After sustaining a career-ending injury, she developed a keen interest in evidence-based injury prevention and rehabilitation measures and comprehensive, multimodal assessments for high-risk athletes. This led Nicole to Kinesiology and employment at Benson Concussion Institute (BCI) in 2019. Her experience at BCI led to a job at CSIAB, coordinating concussion baseline testing and concussion care for high-risk athletes. In addition, Nicole coordinates all medical care and medical intakes CSIAB athletes. 

In her spare time, Nicole enjoys hiking and skiing in the mountains, yoga, swimming, and spending time with her family and (way too adorable) rescue dogs and cat, Arie, Taz, and Mouse.

Marianne Portelance

Marianne Portelance  BHPED

Coordinator, Performance Services

Marianne completed her Bachelor of Health and Physical Education from Mount Royal University. While completing her undergrad, Marianne spent time working as a personal trainer at the YMCA. She also volunteered her time as an events coordinator and health and safety plan developer for the Outlier Surf Club.

She joined the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta team in 2021 where she worked as a communications and marketing assistant. Since joining CSIAB, Marianne has gained valuable experience in translation, media collaboration, event planning and coordination.

Marianne spent her youth competing at the National level in long track speed skating for six years. After stepping away from skating she developed a passion in volunteering for various large sporting events such as: Cross Fit 2016 Nationals in Albany, NY as athlete services, Red Bull Crashed Ice 2017 as a French translator for team France, and recently Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games as Mission Staff and Media Liaison.

Outside of the office you can find her either volunteering her time at local sporting events, or in the mountains enjoying various outdoor activities.

Madeline Cosh

Madeline Cosh BKin, CAT (C) 

Medical Coordinator 


Madeline graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Calgary. That same year she completed her Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal University. 

During her athletic therapy program, Madeline developed a special interest in concussions after working with high-risk athletes. Wanting to be able to innovate and connect athletes with superior and comprehensive health and wellness services is what led her to a career in high-performance sports and sports science. 

After graduation, Madeline started working with the Benson Concussion Institute, where she took on a role doing concussion baseline testing and coordinating concussion care for high-risk Canadian Sport Institute Alberta athletes. She now coordinates all medical care and medical intakes for Canadian Sport Institute Alberta athletes.

Outside of work Madeline enjoys playing tennis, yoga, gardening, enjoying the outdoors, and above all being a mom. Fun Fact: Madeline originally moved to Calgary to pursue a career in ballet before transitioning into sport science.

Ashley Hudson

Ashley Hudson

Coordinator, Business Operations

Ashley completed her Kinesiology degree from the University of Lethbridge while coaching high school volleyball and keeping up with marathon training.

Ashley has worked in the Oil and Gas sector for the last 10-years and gained valuable experience working in various roles from accounting to engineering while teaching corporate fitness classes to stay connected to her passion. Prior to joining CSIAB, Ashley worked at Pembina Pipelines in the conventional pipelines department aiding in project work and team collaboration with external events.

Ashley has worked consistently within the health and wellness sector for the past 10-years, first as a spin instructor, teaching and training others as well as completing her 200 hours for her yoga certifications as well as various other focused yoga courses.

Born and raised in Calgary, Ashley has played sports all her life; from softball, track and field, and now marathons and ultra-marathons placing Top-3 in her age category regularly. Recently she has put her endurance sports to good use by running with and after foster dogs from AARCS.

Nathan Hargrave

Nathan Hargrave BKin

Medical Coordinator 


Nathan graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. He transferred from the University of Saskatchewan where he took courses while playing Jr. A hockey.

During his athletic career, Nathan enjoyed the science in the medicine behind the sport, in particular the concussions. This interest led to an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and employment at Benson Concussion Institute in 2018. This experience at BCI has led to the job at CSIAB, coordinating concussion baseline testing and concussion care for high-risk Canadian Sport Institute Alberta athletes. In addition, Nathan now coordinates all medical care and medical intakes for Canadian Sport Institute Alberta athletes.

In his spare time, Nathan enjoys being playing hockey, snowboarding, fly fishing, hiking and spending time with his family and dog Kenora.
