Bryan Yu

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Bryan completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Biomechanics at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. Walter Herzog. His research aims to examine the operational muscle length in speed skaters during the turn-cable exercise. 

He joined the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta team in 2014 where he worked with multiple Canadian national and development teams. Bryan also worked as the lead performance coach with the Chinese national speed skating team from 2019 to 2020. Bryan currently works as the lead strength coach for the Men’s National Para Hockey Team.  

Bryan’s goal in coaching is to provide a science-driven practice that integrates health and athletic performance. Outside of work, he enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and reading.

Tim Neenan

Tim Neenan BSc, UKAas, UKSCAam, MSc student

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Tim completed his Bachelor of Science in sport science, health & human biology. He is currently completing his Master of Science in strength and conditioning at St Mary’s University, in Twickenham London.

Tim’s pervious experiences in track and field, professional rugby union and women’s football provided him the opportunity to do an internship at the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta. He was then offered the opportunity to join the team while he continues to pursue his Master's at a distance from the UK.

Tim is the current strength and conditioning coach for the National and NextGen Luge teams as well as NextGen Ski Cross.

Fun fact: Born in south west London UK, Tim loves a good cup of coffee and will take any opportunity to travel!

Tessa Gallinger

Tessa Gallinger MSc, CSCS, CSEP-CPT

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Tessa completed her Bachelor of Science in kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She also holds a Master of Science from the University of Calgary where she focused her research on high velocity training and muscle length adaptation in individuals with cerebral palsy. 

Tessa works as a strength and conditioning consultant and adaptive strength specialist for the Canadian Sport Institute Alberta. In addition, she works as the lead strength coach for the national and NextGen para swimming programs at Swimming Canada and provides services to athletes supported through the Alberta Sport Development Centre. Tessa coaches many Paralympic sport teams including swimming, cycling, triathlon and goalball.

Regardless of which team Tessa is working with, her main goal is to provide research-driven training expertise in order to continually improve athletic performance and ensure that athletes stay healthy. Her spare time is usually spent travelling to new places, hiking in the Rockies or training in Olympic lifting.

Quin Sekulich

Quin Sekulich BPE, CSCS

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Quin completed his Bachelor of Physical Education in sport performance at the University of Alberta. His expertise includes acceleration and speed development. Quin was the speed and strength coach for the University of Alberta’s football team from 1999-2006 and sprint coach for track and field team from 2002 to 2008.

He has been a sprint coach with bobsleigh and skeleton athletes since 2006 and has worked with athletes at every summer and winter Olympic Games since 2006. For the past 15 years, he has helped Canadian athletes win multiple Olympic medals.

As a competitive athlete himself, Quin was forced to retire early, prior to achieving his life-long goal of becoming an Olympian. His goal as a coach is to help athletes avoid making the same mistakes he made to allow them to have healthy careers and the best opportunity to realize their Olympic dreams.
